The helmet was found inside a bunker in Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh Oblast, Russia.

Helmets of this pattern surface in the Voronezh region because the Royal Hungarian Second Army held a long stretch of the Don front there in 1942 and was broken up during the Soviet offensive of January 1943.
