Original Bakelite cup for a German WWII field canteen (Feldflasche).
The German Feldflasche was issued with a cup that fitted over the bottle, and from the late 1930s these cups were increasingly moulded in Bakelite phenolic resin rather than enamelled steel in order to save metal. Bakelite chips and cracks easily, so complete undamaged cups are steadily harder to find.
