Description

Original Soviet SSh-36 (СШ-36) steel helmet, an early standardized Red Army combat helmet introduced in the 1930s and used during the early years of World War II.
Found in the Smolensk region, Russia.

The Soviet SSh-36

Adopted in 1936, the SSh-36 was the Red Army first mass-produced modern steel helmet and is instantly recognisable by its flared brim and raised comb. It was largely replaced by the SSh-39 and SSh-40 during the early war years, which is why surviving examples are relatively scarce.
